A half-day intensive Mobile Phone Video Production training course in the art of creating compelling short form (2-4 min) video content using a mobile device and free digital editing and filmmaking apps. You will learn how to create content that grabs the attention of audiences who have short attention spans and use mobile devices.

Anyone can press RECORD to tell a story – but few people can do it well enough to engage an audience. With training everyone can shoot, capture, edit and create a simple video narrative or report at no cost – the video can then be shared and broadcast free of charge across social media channels, embedded in your website or broadcast as a live event.

10.00/11.30: The rules of how to ‘Shoot and Capture’, understand the jargon (wides, cutaways etc) and what it means to an editor, understanding optimum video file sizes for Twitter, YouTube and Facebook, an overview of mobile device apps for editing and filmmaking
11.45 /1.00: Practical exercise 1 – Split into 2 groups to make short films, edit and upload to Facebook, Twitter and into YouTube channel
1.00/1.20: View and critique of films. Q&A.
1.20 /1.40: Practical exercise 2 – Split into 2 groups to make live broadcasts into social media channels using Facebook Live and Periscope
1.40/2.00: Group discussion – How can you use live social media broadcasts for your organisation. Q&A.
Torquil Boyd has over 30 years experience in the television industry. He has written, produced and directed four UK TV series for the BBC, ITV and History Channel. Torquil has credits in producing, directing, camera work and editing. His company TTV Pictures was established in 1967, making it one of the oldest video companies in the world.
Torquil has done extensive filming for charities and is a committee member of The 48 Group Club, an Anglo Chinese group based on the principle of equality and mutual understanding through commerce. He is also a member of the CIOJ and the Frontline Club.
